Monets Garden Update

Here is an update to my monet's garden.

Its far to wet to make too many more adjustments on this one.. but its coming along :) i am not sure i like the girl on the bridge .. she looks too short or something ? I already made her taller than she was previously .. and i am not mad about the pink .. but it was for lack of another colour. I am hoping in the next session i will be able to start really making it pop. I am going to try not to be too detailed with this one but i can hear the detail calling calling me.

someone pull my arm back !!!

One think i have to say i am finding difficult is mixing a dark value os something without it just looking blue... i am having a real problem mixing a dark brown with the colours i am using for my monet palette its not so bad in the photo but in rl it looks a bit different .. anywho onwards and upwards.

Oh Belinda! It's looking beautiful! I've always loved impressionistic works, but I'm like you: I can't stop putting in details, lol!
I think you're doing great!

Belinda, it's really looking good. Hold back that detailed hand, the foliage is just gorgeous - it almost moves without the details. I agree with you on the bridge lady, maybe a little small. What would you think of a yellow dress?

Really looking good Belinda!

Belinda, it is beautiful! I really like the shadows in the trees behind the girl. I like the girl there, it adds something. Maybe if you don't want her there, you could add a bunch of mixed flowers and foliage?

Belinda, I just remembered...I read the other night that Sargent tried many times to get Monet to add black to his palette. Sargent felt black was essential (for him, it was). Monet would never agree. Being a value hunter lately, I've had a look through Monet's stuff, some of it had precious little value variation to it. Not everything was that way, but there are definitely some paintings where he doesn't go beyond a middle tone! But, you did really get some good value range in there. :-) (even if you say it's all blue :-).

Thankyou so much everyone :)

I really like the idea of the girl valerie, i feel like i just havent created her well enough .. so it makes everything else look odd.. it might improve on the next session.

thanks rose thats interesting. i wasnt aware consciously that monet did that but in thinking about it i was thinking that alot of his paintings werent dark.. and i didnt have to go too dark ... so yeah that all makes sense .. hopefully this will have dried enough i can do some more today :)

Belinda, I think it's coming along beautifully! I love the background foliage and the colour ranges you have used. As for the girl, I'm definitely no expert so please, please, please ignore this if it doesn't make sense to you. Personally, I feel like her size and proportions may be a little off in relation to the bridge and foliage....perhaps if you slimmed her down, made the head smaller and adjusted the torso and legs to be more in proportion to each other, she would fit in a little better?

I think your right Serena going to give that one a go :)
