Shells by the beach

"Shells by the beach" - By Belinda Lindhardt, Pen

During the holiday / christmas period the boys and I spent a bit of time at the beach and collected quite a few shells :) They have been sitting in a bucket and I have looked at them from time to time knowing there was inspiration there. So many wonderful colours and shapes and textures, also an nice happy feeling that comes from going to the beach and summer.

On the weekend, i was setting some shells up for a still life coloured pencil piece and decided to start on this pen drawing while i was there :) I don't have to be as disciplined with these pen drawings as i would with a cp artwork, i can just start drawing and let it evolve.

Good fun :)

Hope you like it :)

Pen Illustration

Here is the weekend's illustration.
I love doing these i think i will begin to do these more regularly.

Sorry about the lack of posts, i have been around, i am busy, busy with stuff as well as having another session where i am sorting out where i want to go from here. I think sometimes we stretch ourselves too far, sometimes its good just to pull back and work out what is really important and also just to get on with getting a job done.

I sorted and reorganised out my studio last week, i think i need to seperate my work from home life a bit more so i am forcing myself to work up there rather than in my house. I might have been sufferring from a bit of burnout. I love the new studio tho it looks great, will post a pic soon. It was also my 33rd birthday last week, i got spolit by all my boys :) had a great time, a am a very lucky woman. :)

Ink and Watercolour

Japanese Garden at Gosford Regional Gallery - Belinda Lindhardt

My favourite new art thing are these Pitt Artist Pens by Faber Castell. They are indian ink, waterproof, lightfast and come in various tip sizes as well as colours. I recently bought one and just tested it out on the above study. I love it! I got the sepia colour and you might not be able to see in this post but the watercolour goes on lovely over the top. and i want to buy more more more. They even come in a brush tip that would be interesting to try. This above one was just a quicky but i really enjoyed it. Definately more to come !

The Structure of Man

A few posts ago i talked briefly about some drawing videos i had found on You-Tube. After doing quite a few of these i decided to buy the first dvd of the series. Its just so much easier to have them on DVD (there are 5 Dvd's you can buy them all together if you wish) and the cost is very reasonable.

This first dvd contains 70 vidoes and i cant praise it enough if you want to learn to draw not just the human figure but anything at all. Even if you are already good at drawing i would urge you just to take a look for interest sake in the way this drawing is taught.
In doing the video you learn how to think of the human figure as an invention rather than the symbols already in your head and therefore you will retrain your brian so you can easily draw from your head the angles and structure of the human body and face. For someone like me who seems to be fighting with my left and right side of the brain atm .. this is just fantastic. The guidelines he teaches you also help with any life drawing or other types of drawing you might try to tackle.

I cant praise it enough .. i am off to do a few more .. you can do some and see for yourself here: http://the-structure-of-man.blogspot.com/

YouTube is cool !

I have recently been looking in to doing some drawing some sketching classes as i need some furher techniques to expand myself.

Being able to get the time to go away and do them is one of the major hurdles i have but i have recently discovered a few various online class options which suit me grandly. In my looking around i found this series on YouTube - Drawing the Human Figure from your Mind - which is a series of videos that can be bought as dvd's on drawing the human figure. I have often started to read these types of books and i get confused and find it hard to work out what is going on. Having it shown to you in video is FANTASTIC if you are like me and always have trouble drawing faces and heads. Its based for people who would use this information for character development and turning them into 3D models. But he also goes into mastering the techniques and getting the basics in. I have just spent the whole morning having a look .. and i think oh i will just look at one more then i am done .. and cant stop.

Now all i gotta do is practice. Did i mention at the beginning of the year that i like to read and research things and my problem is doing?? HAHAHA well as you can see its a habit i find very hard to break !
